It's What You Bring to It

I went looking for my ideals outside of myself and discovered; it’s not what the world holds for you, it’s what you bring to it. The dreams dearest to my heart are right here.
— Anne Shirley

There's nothing like cuddling up in your bed, taking your laptop out, and watching your favorite movie. Recently, I got a chance to relax and watch Anne of Green Gables. I've seen it many times throughout the years and each time, my love for this movie grows deeper. I seem to always realize something new and understand more clearly.

In the final scene, when Anne finally accepts Gilbert's hand in marriage, she said something that struck me. "It's not what the world holds for you, it's what you bring to it." Truly, a lot of times, we think if we do this thing or join that group or move to that location that our lives will be much more fulfilled.

However, I have come to realize that it's not what the world has for us it's what we bring to it.

Last summer, I thought that if I could just move to NYC, my dreams would come true and I would be on my way to what I thought was a "successful" photographer. However, I soon learned that my place of living did not determine my talent as a photographer. And I moved back home and started saving money for the future.

Since then, I have been striving to be the best that I can be no matter what job title or company that I worked for.

Throughout this year, I have learned that I needed to live and learn the lessons that I learned. I am sure that no matter where you go or what you do, you will always learn something, but I am thankful for what I have learned and how I have grown.

This coming year, I have a lot of plans and goals that I hope to accomplish. I will continue with this mindset and strive to bring what I can to any situation that I am given. I am ready for the new year and will not just await for all it's glory, but I will bring what I can to enrich my own life.
